Baxter Worldwide Headquarters

Baxter International Inc. is a global diversified healthcare company that develops, manufactures and markets products to treat hemophilia, immune disorders, infectious diseases, cancer, kidney disease, trauma and other complex medical conditions. These products are used in both acute and chronic healthcare settings to save and sustain patients' lives.

Baxter has more than 60 manufacturing facilities worldwide, in the United States, Europe, Canada, Asia, Latin America and Australia. As part of the restoration of the Baxter's Headquaters, Mad Systems provided an audio visual system which controls over 20 computer based interactive displays; we also designed and installed a special sound system that contains the sound within a specific space.

This exhibit comprises two 40" LCD displays that are driven by two separate computers to create an interactive that blends into its background when it is not in use: the "attract" loop consists of videos that match the graphical background.

A blue lit trackball is used to rotate a graphical representation of earth clockwise or counter clockwise. When we pass one of the Baxter offices the globe slows down and locks briefly into that location. If the visitor pushes the customized trackball, that location is selected, and a number of different available stories are listed. The visitor now moves the trackball to select one of the stories, and presses it again to select that story to run on the secondary 40" display.
This complex interactive uses a 65" plasma touchscreen to allow visitors to navigate through a large number of different stories relating to Baxter's business groups. First of all, an area of business is selected, and this action causes the screen to graphically depict multiple stories on the right side of the screen. Simultaneous dynamically moving video clips allow visitors to preview the story they might wish to experience, and by touching one of the stories they get to see that particular video on the main part of the screen. This interactive required us to develop a method for displaying up to 5 Simultaneous video clips on the screen at any one time.
