Mad Systems Inc
Audio-Visual Systems Integration and Interactives - anywhere in the world

Mad Systems is an award-winning audio-visual systems integration company. We are a majority woman owned company founded in 1998, and we provide a full range of solutions to the many challenges of audiovisual (A/V) presentations for museums, attractions, homes and the industry that supports them. From interactive computer systems to video display solutions that address the needs of our clients anywhere in the world. Mad Systems focuses on providing results that exceed our clients' requirements and expectations - without exceeding their budgets.

Mad Systems is an audiovisual company with a difference. We design, build, integrate, install and commission basic and complex systems. We design, deliver and install turnkey systems and interfaces that are simple to manage and operate, and that are fully and properly integrated with other venue systems. We build and test the entire system at our premises to ensure that installation and setup go as smoothly as possible on-site. Most of our systems comprise a remote access link that allows us to help the owner maintain and update their system through a secure internet tunnel.

Our creativity, expertise and tools are second to none. Our extraordinary toolkit goes well beyond the needs of basic A/V and includes a 3-D scanner, a rapid prototyping machine/3-D printer, a laser engraver and cutter, a 3-D computer controlled milling machine with the necessary design, conversion and control software to back it all up. Our fully equipped mechanical workshop allows us to produce exhibits from simple support structures to complex devices such as orreries, earthquake simulators and moving mechanical special effects. At Mad Systems, we have the technical answers to make your creative vision a reality.

What makes us special is our people. The Mad Systems team of experienced professionals works to consistently high standards. Our dedication to your projects, and the quality of our work and service enbody the "Mad Difference".

Don't forget: at heart, Mad Systems is an Audio-Visual Systems integration company - with some unusual skills that will help you put your project together, on time and to budget.
  • Mad Systems increases mechanical abilities
Mad Systems recently installed and commissioned the latest Omax waterjet cutter with a working cutting bed of 55"x55" to increase their in-house mechanical capabilities. Capable of cutting materials including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, titanium, toolsteel, granite, marble, glass, wood and a host of other materials with thicknesses up to 12" (30cm) to an accuracy of up to 3 thousands of an inch, this tool is intended to allow for the production of custom rack panels and custom shapes that will further extend Mad's capability to produce electro-mechanical interactive displays and even allows for the production of signage and inlay work. Equipped with the very latest accessories including the patented Omax tilt-a-jet, it is now possible to cut almost any material with a near zero taper. Mad uses a standard jet as well as the "mini-jet" to allow for very fine and accurate work.
  • Gwinnett Cultural Heritage Center's Blue Planet Theater takes Muse award for Multimedia Installations
Mad Systems is proud to announce that the Blue Planet Theater at the Leeds Platinum rated Gwinnett Cultural Heritage Center took a Multimedia award at the 2007 AAM (American Association of Museums) conference. The judges said: "The clever use and professional integration of media and technology is compelling and the jury was won over by the seamless presentation—lighting, water flow, mist, projections, and audio. The technical achievements of Blue Planet Theater set a standard that should be used as a benchmark as these experiences are developed in the future." Further links : Blooloop
  • Swinburne and Mad Systems release latest 3D movie, "the Detective" at AAM conference in Chicago
"Swinburne's latest release is a stunning new advance in the quality of their character animations" says Ensing, CEO of Mad Systems, Swinburne's distributors. The Detective uses a fun story to teach how problems can be solved and theories can be verified or debunked by carefully combing through the evidence and proving or disproving individual aspects of any given theory. (Exerts from "The Detective" may be seen in the "3D movies" section of our website)

  • Chicago History Museum Children's Gallery takes AAM 2007 Award
Congratulations to the Chicago History Museum for the award they received for the children's gallery. Mad Systems is delighted to have provided the AV system for the museum, complete with a remote monitoring/update capability. "This is a nice system", says Ensing, CEO of Mad Systems, "we collaborated with Monadnock Media on providing a system that yielded some unusual interactives for the museum - and kids certainly enjoy them". A novel green-screening facility allows kids to play with images of the "L", "the Windy City", and several other backgrounds. An interactive experience using audio and projected imagery requires them to remember where in the floor specific sounds are hidden, and an interactive postcard kiosk allows them to create their own Chicago postcard and email that home.
  • Kidspace wins Thea Award
The Kidspace children's museum in Pasadena won a Thea award for Outstanding Achievement. Mad Systems is proud to have provided the audio-visual and interactive expertise to make this project into a success. "Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement: Children’s Museum. Designed primarily for children 12 and under, this new museum artfully incorporates a wide variety of original immersive experiences that encourage exploration in all who enter through the whimsical kaleidoscope tunnel. The surprising components within combine theme park design techniques with progressive education in a one-of-a-kind children’s museum. The originality of the design is evident in the way indoor and outdoor learning areas seamlessly integrate a multitude of whimsical scenic and natural environments, audio effects, pioneering climb towers, unique immersive exhibits and educational facilities. Kidspace has achieved a new standard in children’s museums—by stimulating the family unit in old-fashioned ways using modern techniques and technology. After 25 years as a children’s learning center in Pasadena, Kidspace re-opened its completely new facility on a 3.5 acre compound in 2004. The innovative new complex includes a central courtyard with interactive water features, a 2.5 acre “exploration garden,” a Wisteria Court with marked “tricycle roadways,” 20,000 square feet of exhibit and educational space, an early childhood learning center, retail store, a Wolfgang Puck Café, and a party facility."
  • U-505 Submarine, Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, wins the Thea award for Outstanding Achievement
How to make an old exhibit new again was the challenge for MSI Chicago. The U-505 submarine has been a Museum treasure since 1954 and in April 2004, the Museum took the unprecedented step of relocating the 700-ton World War II U-Boat, which had been exposed to the elements for 50 years, to an underground, climate controlled building and created a 35,000 square foot interactive exhibit that explores the history of World War II’s Battle of the Atlantic, the compelling story of the vessel’s capture, the technology of the U-boat, and what life was like aboard this German submarine. Guests view nearly 200 artifacts related to this National Historic Landmark and hear real testimony from the veterans who captured the vessel. Interactive challenges allow guests to command a sub using a dive trainer, test their skills on the navigational and attack periscopes, send an Enigma-encoded message to friends, learn about the principle of buoyancy and take a bunk in the crew’s quarters. They can go on an optional tour of the U-505 itself, now with new authentic lighting and sound effects. The exhibit clearly demonstrates MSI’s mission to inspire the inventive genius in everyone by presenting captivating and compelling experiences that are real and educational. Mad Systems worked with Chris Chabourne and Associates, a Boston based museum designer to create this incredible experience.
